Alissa Tyrrell - Different Encounters
Fri 31 Jan - Tue 24 Mar

The Tank 4 Gallery (exhibition space) is closed until further notice.
Council’s key priorities remain the safety and wellbeing of staff and the community and continuity of services, as appropriate.
During Alissa Tyrrell’s last years of high school, she spent most of her break time in the art room of Trinity Bay State School, exploring the techniques she’d learned in class – and coming up with a few of her own.
Now, just two months after leaving year 12, Alissa presents a fresh body of work that demonstrates her ability to layer colours and textures, reducing the complexity of the landscape to its most basic forms. Inspired particularly by the marble pits of Chillagoe, Alissa’s paintings evoke a sense of mystique.
“I particularly want to suggest how ancient the landscape is - that there are unseen forms and shapes lurking underneath the ground. There’s a slight transparency in my paintings, achieved by multiple thin layers of tinted clear medium.”
Alissa Tyrrell won the Tanks Arts Centre Curator’s Award at the Energy Exhibition in September last year. This is her first solo exhibition.
