Women Weave - 2019 International Women's Day event

Weaving sound, fibre & community to celebrate the creative soul of women worldwide.
Join local Community facilitators in a day of workshops open to women and children of all ages.
Workshops include Native American and Pacific Island traditional weave with Lia Pa’apa’ and Pacific Communities, Recycled & waste material weaving with Junk Weavers, Poi making and Multicultural song circle with Emmaline Anderson, African doll making workshop with Samalie and the Kalapata Childrens Charity, Discovering the energy of plants through sound with harpist Natalia Mann and Kuku Yalanji singer Merindi Schrieber (this is a roaming workshop through Botanical gardens) and a workshop on how to create music to the woven object of the day!
Registration is free. Donations for workshops are very welcome! All donations will go toward future WOMEN WEAVE events. There will be a stall with facilitators weaving works available for purchase. Bring cash! Enjoy lunch with us provided by Community women. And join with us in attending ‘WOVEN’ Austranesia performance in the evening at the recently opened Cairns Performing Arts Centre.
