Angela Meyer - Grammars of Ornament: Windows in Time
Fri 01 Jun - Thu 14 Jun
LAUNCH: 6pm Friday 1 June
In this body of work Angela Meyer is interested in identity politics, disparity and unity in historical narratives and the tropical world as a place of abundant nature and complexity.
Visual grammar provides a way to engage with ideas in the world around us in time and place with not only what the eye can see but also the historical context which may have become invisible.
Referencing early artist sketches and depictions of first encounters between indigenous and non-indigenous people, Meyer’s paintings echo a sorrow and curiosity toward history, place and identity. The currency and agency of visual imagery asks us to consider always the context in which circumstances are framed.
