Alex Hiatt - Relationships On Paper
Fri 14 Dec - Sun 20 Jan
LAUNCH 6PM FRI 14 DEC
As anyone who has ever painted a portrait knows, when the work is finished, it represents a relationship between the artist and the subject - especially when the artist has painted a little bit of himself into the portrait.
Alex Hiatt is an emerging artist with an astonishingly prolific output of work for one so young. His portraits are at once intensely personal and easily accessible to an audience.
His mixed-media drawings are inhabited by self-portraits, often imbued with the characteristics and costume of pop-culture icons; Dr Who, the characters from Glee, Spiderman and Michael Jackson are regularly featured as friends and personas.
With humble, urgent, unaffected honesty they are a visual recording, blurring the boundaries of lived experiences, dream states, and lofty aspirations reflective of an active creative life engaged in the visual and performing arts.
