Karen Argus - When will the rain come?
Fri 03 Nov - Sun 03 Dec
This exhibition has been created in a picture book style and asks us to question our thoughts and ideas about toads.
The story was developed while teaching a P-4 class in a rural community and portrays an interaction students had with some toads which were in ‘a long dark hole under the tree’. An additional voice of a young toad is provided to create another perspective.
Interspersed amongst the story are reconstructed newspaper articles, sculptures and toad movement maps which provide a historical context for our thinking as a society.
The development of this exhibition came through research studies at JCU and teaching visual art units of work with Years 1 to 6 students in Far North schools around bullying. The student work forms part of our societal positioning on what we think.
