Bamboo Connect - Building Bridges by Co-Lab
Sat 07 Mar - Sun 19 Apr
Weekend Workshops for Kids aged 8-14 years
7 & 8 March, 21 & 22 March, 18 & 19 April
Hey kids, mums and dads, Co-Lab returns with a new challenge for you. Can you build a bridge out of bamboo?
Bamboo is an ancient construction material and is still used today for all sorts of structures. The bamboo used in Bamboo Connect comes from stands that were originally planted by Chinese market gardeners on the slopes of Mt Whitfield for use as garden trellises. They are a popular feature of the Red Arrow walking track but need regular maintenance to keep from spreading too far into native bushland.
These workshops will lead to another installation in Tinkering Tank for Cairns Children’s Festival 2020, so get involved early and become part of the Bamboo Connect team.
All workshops are 2-days (Saturday & Sunday) with parent/carer participation on the Sunday. Participants can sign up for the Morning group (9.30am - 12.00pm) or the Afternoon group (1.00pm - 3.30pm), for one or multiple workshops:
7 & 8 March: Workshop #1, Exploring & Processing Bamboo
21 & 22 March: Workshop #2, Natural Curves & Collaborative Arches
18 & 19 April: Workshop #3, Triangles & Trusses
