Rickie Lee Jones
Thu 13 Apr
Two-time Grammy Award winner Rickie Lee Jones exploded onto the music scene in 1979 with her jazz-flavoured single Chuck E.’s In Love. 2017 will see Jones bring her ‘confessional’ performance to Tanks with this official Bluesfest sideshow.
With 15 critically acclaimed albums to her name, Jones continues to fearlessly experiment with her sound in what can only be described as a mixed bag, recording in musical styles including rock, R&B, blues, pop, soul and jazz. Jones is undoubtedly a character, both lyrically and in performance, defying convention over her 5 decade career with her sometimes brazen sexuality.
Her latest album, The Other Side of Desire, was written, recorded and rooted in New Orleans, where she lives. Described as an arrestingly ambitious musical journey, rich in sonic adventure and detail, it would seem Jones is showing no signs of slowing down.
“This was one of those nights when live music becomes really live, when the bond between performer and audience pushes everyone further than expected.” – Telegraph.co.uk
“Count on Rickie Lee Jones to always burn. Soft or quiet, fast or slow, the woman's soul has such a depth of feeling that everything she does actually means something.”–themortonreport.com
